Working on Emerging Choreographers was a beautiful round circle moment. I got the chance to revisit Demille Theatre. One of the very first venues I've worked in; but this time I was the head of my crew. The sound system in this theatre is a rep system. Therefore the biggest challenge wasn't putting the sysem together, but understanding every aspect of the system and its capacity of power.
Due to the venue having a rep system we wanted to discover the possibility of creating a more surround sound effect by soft patching though the board. Using a technique called mid sides. Duplicating the stereo input coming from Qlab on the Allen & Heath SQ5 ( having 2 sets of L's & 2 sets of R's) and inverting the polarity of the second set of stereo inputs. That allowed for us o have a positive L&R signal and a Negative L&R signal from QLab. All and all the loudspeakers were then able to display different sounds with different emphasis. Mimicking a surround Sound System.
